THE FIRST POTLUCK
The potluck dinner is a staple of life in senior communities because of not only the food but the fellowship as well. But they are not always easy to pull off. There are enough winter visitors arriving that it seems time for the first event of the winter this week. There are two problems, however. One is that many people tend to "cocoon" and don't go into the clubhouse where information on the event is posted. The only way you can get their attention is to post a large sign on the door exiting the room where they pick up the mail. The signup sheet for the dinner has been posted on the door but mysteriously gets moved to another bulletin board that few people ever look at. So there is a communication problem. An even bigger problem is that all the furniture has been taken out of the clubhouse where a potluck will be held so that the floors can be cleaned a waxed. This should have been done by now but the fellow who was to do the work failed to show up. If not done by Saturday everyone may have to bring their lawn chairs. Stayed tuned to find out if the potluck actually happens and if anyone shows up.
