ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS

Living in a senior community is very much like living inside a TV soap opera. Take relationships for example. in my community we've had ups and downs, new beginnings and bad endings in relationships.
Among the "ups" is a relationship that developed over a period of years. A lady friend became a widow several years ago. Several years later a man I know lost his wife after a number of years of being a caretaker. There's a story that not too long after the man's wife died he started showing up at the meetings of a quilt group (he was a quilter) also attended by the previously mentioned widow. Happily these two became seen together at many events and soon started traveling together although they did keep separate houses. The next step in this developing story was a recent announcement that the fellow was putting his house up for sale and the two would be living together; no more golf cart runs between houses.
On the flip side there is the story of a couple, new to the community, who separated but remained in the same community. Among other things, the wife same to realize she could not take the man's negative attitude. He obviously grumbled about many things about community living and couldn't wait to get out. The first step toward the end of their relationship was the wife's purchase of another house in the same community maybe 15 houses away. She has found the community one she likes. It is not unrealistic to suspect that at least some of the man's fellow residents regret the separation but may not miss the "grump."
So, in matters of the heart you always win a few and lose a few.
