Saturday is not a good day to go shopping at the Walmart Supercenter in the Yuma Foothills but it sure makes for a fun day of watching. The trick is to get there early and get a front row seat at McDonald’s in the store, maybe have a senior coffee or two. From that front row seat you get an outstanding view of the checkout lanes which have a continuous stream of “winter visitors” stocking up on beer and other important items. You get to see what your friends and neighbors are buying (important to know who buys your brand in case you want to visit), watch the parade of unhappy faces standing in too-long lines and take note of which gossip magazines they are reading while waiting. If you are lucky you might even get to see a shouting match between someone who tries to cut in line or between an unhappy shopper and a tired checkout person. Saturday at Walmart is entertainment at its best, the kind of entertainment that only senior citizens can enjoy. Where else can you have so much fun for less than two dollars (unless you buy a mocha, or fries, or Big Mac, or apple pie, etc.) If you actually want to shop you learn to do it before it gets light on a Monday.
