HOW ABOUT THOSE OSPREYS

Had a chance today to see four Ospreys in flight. No, not the bird which looks like a hawk, but the strange looking aircraft that has tilt-able engines allowing it to take off and land vertically (Marine Corps photo). It is just one of many military aircraft seen in the skys over Yuma, AZ, on a daily basis. That's because the city is the home of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. It is the largest Marine air facility in the country. Flying overhead on a regular basis are the AV-8E Harrier jets which also have vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. The base will soon become the initial facility to house the new F-35B jet, the Navy's most modern aircraft. Hope to be seeing those in the Yuma skies before the first of the year. Helicopters of every size and shape also fly over. Two of the Marines killed defending the Camp Bastion air base in Afghanistan were based at MCAS Yuma. We're proud of our Marine neighbors. Semper Fi.
