ON THE CRAFT SHOW CIRCUIT
Along with winter visitors, Yuma AZ, is besieged with craft shows; a place for the winter visitors to spend their money. Just about every day of the week one can find a craft show at one of the RV parks. Even if you don’t spend a lot of money, a craft show is a fun place to kill some time. Where else could you find a guy wearing a turkey or a big garlic bud on their heads. And then there’s a look alike Elvis selling jewelry. And it’s not only real crafts that you can buy. At a recent show the following were available: emergency food kits, clothing, cosmetics, hats, jewelry, night lights, paintings, party dips, potato bags, pottery, zippered purses, rugs, signs, books, wood products, etc. You can even sign up for travel tours and to become a member of Sam’s Club. For those vendors at the craft shows, it means loading the car or van early and heading out for their destination in the early fall morning darkness. And, would you believe it, the temperatures can be brisk in the desert early in the morning. If vendors try and take part in all the shows, they become nomads, much like the traveling medicine show men of the distant past. For the rest of the seniors it simply means an interesting way to kill a half day in their not-too-busy schedule.
