A neighbor is severely challenged on technology. Her main technology has been a small dedicated email device using the phone line. Not long ago we helped her get a good package deal with the local cable company for telephone, internet and television. She didn't need (or didn't want) the internet and ended up with more television channels than she could possibly handle. Up until recently she watched maybe a half dozen of the 200 channels available. I suspect she's a little afraid of the technology. We've made a headway in getting her more TV savvy in recent days however. We suggested she just start at the lower channels and hit the Channel Up button to actually see what is available. Today she was all enthused because she found some movie channels which she really liked. So now she may actually watch a dozen channels. To many people providing digital technology to someone who doesn't really want it is silly. What's silly is that the cable company will come up with packages that are priced such that you pay all just to get basic service. Oh, and she has a DVR as part of the package which she won't touch. It is difficult just explaining to her what a DVR does let alone teach her to use it. We've a long way to go but we're making progress. I suspect, however, she will never use the internet service because there is now way she will ever get a computer.
