After taking a few cruises smart travelers learn that it is cheaper to take a tour at a stop once you get off the ship rather than book tours on the ship. It is also a lot more fun and you can get a good overview of a community with a local guide. This certainly was the case when the Grand Princess docked in Victoria, British Columbia, for the day. A history buff took us on a walking tour of the downtown area and got us into places a group tour would not have gone. An example was that we got to see the amazing stained glass windows in Christ Church Cathedral. The church has been a fixture in Victoria for a long time but the windows located in the Chapel of the New Jerusalem were only added in 1994. The windows were designed by artist Chris Wallis. The central panel depicts Saint John's vision in the Book of Revelation. The chapel is separated from the sanctuary by a clear glass wall. When one stands with their back to the new windows looking into the sanctuary the Wallis windows are reflected in the glass making them appear to be floating.
