From the street the Alpine style house looks like many others in the upscale subdivision in Truckee, CA, called Tahoe Donner. But on closer inspection one might realize there is something special about this home. The skis high on the building and the ski boots hanging from the rafter outside should provide clues as to how special the house is. For it was the home of the late educator and championship snow skier Georgene Bihlman who, during her 50 year skiing career won some 800 trophies and medals in ski competition all over the world. The home is actually a museum of sorts tell the story of that amazing career. Bihlman, who was an inductee in the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 2002, died in 2010 after a battle with
debilitating Parkinson's disease. The walls of this special house are lined with many of Bihlman's honors and awards as well as paraphernalia of the ski sport. The house is now occupied by a friend and longtime companion of Bihlman's who keeps the memory of this amazing woman alive. The walls tell the story of an amazing woman who successfully competed well into her senior years.
