GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN HASN'T STOPPED THE NOISE

After a summer living in the peace and quiet of the high Sierras it was quite a shock to return to the noisy skies of Yuma, Arizona. With the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma not far away and the Border Patrol trying to catch infiltrators the noise level at times particularly from big helicopters (the Stallions especially) is very irritating. The noise is particularly bad this time of year when the temperatures at night fall low enough that it is possible to open windows. While watching TV on any given night when the big helicopters are operating not only can you not hear the TV sound but the craft are low enough that the house shakes. You sure can't put anything delicate on a wall shelf. When you add in the daytime sound of the new F14 jets flying in formation its enough to stress some people out. You would think that when the government shut down some non-essential flights would have been grounded but it hasn't happened.
