A SOLDIER YET NOT A VETERAN

If you go to a show in Branson, Missouri, they always asked veterans to stand and be recognized. I’ve attended many such shows and seldom stand although I served my country during the Vietnam War in the Missouri National Guard. To me the term “veteran” applies to those in the military who actually served in a hostile environment or were actually involved in combat. The six months of training at Fort Knox, KY (see the photo above) and seven years as a Guard member technically qualifies me as a veteran I don’t feel like one. Technically I was a electrical generator operator in the helicopter repair unit in Springfield, MO (a unit that came very close to being called to active duty) I can only imagine the suffering in actual combat situations. I’m proud to have been a Guardsman but will save the glory and honor with those who got their hands dirty.
