I didn't know how bad the economy was until I attended our October Fest event this past Saturday. They only had 60 cans of beer and not the usual keg. Of course, with two boxes of wine (remember when wine came in bottles) there was more than enough libation to have a great senior community event. There was plenty of bratwurst (some of which had been charred pretty good), sauerkraut, German and American potato salads, and a facsimile of German chocolate cake. Best of all there were lots of stories told, many of which could not be heard because of the extreme noise level caused by 80 some people all talking at the same time, many almost shouting to get the attention of the person across the table from them. There was dancing, or at least movement, to the popular songs of October Fest: "In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus", "Bayrischer Defiliermarsch", and "Wenn ich auf hohen Bergen steh". A good time was had by all even those who wished the wheel barrow full of beer hadn't emptied so quickly.
