POTLUCK ORGANIZATION

Setting up a potluck dinner for fewer than 30 people should be easy, right? Don't count on such a chore being easy when the participants are senior citizens. When you plan such an event it's nice to know how many will attend and what they will contribute to the culinary feast. So a list was put up with lines to signup for specific foods. What you find out is that many seniors don't like to cook and will sign up for such things as potato chips or some other thing that doesn't require much effort. To make things simpler a list of foods that might be good at a cookout was posted. Even though the instrutions said that condiments would be provided for the hot dogs and hamburgers one person signed to bring mustard and ketchup. When informed that wasn't needed, she decided to bring potato chips. But someone else had already signed up for that. Besides that someone signed up for baked beans and drew an arrow top the macaroni salad line. Finally the mustard/ketchup and potato chip lady decided to bring watermelon. But she complicated things by not signing up on a dessert line. So we may have too much macaroni salad and not enough baked beans. Heaven knows that those people will bring who forgot to sign up for the potluck and will just show up. It seems like a lot of trouble having fun any more.
