FROM THE ROAD: BLAST FROM THE PAST

Remember the original McDonald's restaurant. A small unremarkable building with a hint of arches but not the large arches of the modern day stores. A modernized version of the original structures can be found in Reno, Nevada on Plump Street. It's an example of the way signage is limited in the city to make it more attractive, less cluttered. The minimalist approach certainly makes the city more attractive but it also makes things harder for tourists. Most buildings, including Walmart, have but a sign on the front of the building. Quite often the buildings are hid behind large fir trees so abundant in the Sierras. It can be a real chore for first timers to find what they are looking for. How did we ever survive without Google to find these places for us.
