FROM THE ROAD: SOUVENIRS

It is amazing what tourists will buy while traveling. A case in point is the group of young ladies in the photo above who couldn't leave Skagway, Alaska, without buying the cute fur caps that made them look like a cartoon character. Chances are pretty good that they come from a part of the country where such apparel is not needed and, once home, the hats will end up in the closet along with the many other treasures acquired on an extended cruise tour. For someone who has been through the travel souvenir phase and reformed it is hard to understand that many people return to a cruise ship after a land visit with the husband loaded with packages. Of course the positive aspect of this is that they are benefitting the local economy.
