HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

The social event of the past week in our little senior community was "The Auction". Residents arrived early to set up their lawn chairs as if they were getting ready for a soccer match. There two reasons for the excitement: there had never been an auction in the community and the person whose house and belongs were being sold was pretty much a mystery. She had kept to herself, telling one person that she didn't need friends, and therefore few people had ever seen her. An auction allow everyone to see what the inside of her house looked like and they talked a lot about her belongs going under the auctioneer's gavel. While this was going on the folks in attendance swapped stories about the mystery lady. The only thing that could have made the event better was if the auctioneer had brought along his lunch wagon. As it was people had to take a chance they'd miss out on something and rush home to grab a sandwich and hurry back. Many had a special reason for being there. They were concerned about the selling price of the house and what effect that would have on their chance to sell when they too might have to go into assisted living.
